The location of my internship that I will be doing during the Summer of 2018 will be at SanMar Corporation located in Issaquah, Washington. I am one of two interns that will be in the Merchandising department at the company. My job as an intern is to assist my supervisor with various administrative tasks. I will also have the opportunity to sit in and participate during meetings with my supervisor. At SanMar all of the departments work closly together so there are constantly a number of meetings that I will be at every day. The two main departments that I will be working with are going to be Design and Global Sourcing. As mentioned by my supervisor, trend forecasting is an essential piece of the puzzle when it comes to Merchandising. I will fortunately get the opportunity to go out and about in Downtown Seattle with the Merchandising team to gain inspiration. This helps the Merchandising team plan for seasons ahead. Excel will also be a huge part of my internship experience at SanMar. Excel is the software that the Merchandising team uses the most.

I hope to learn a lot from this internship opportunity. After visiting SanMar in the Fall of 2017 for the Northwest Field Experience class, I knew that I wanted to try my best to get an internship there due to learning so much about the company and having an urge to learn more. I really want to learn a lot more
within Excel. I have learned a lot of the basics but I am excited to learn more in depth skills. I also want to learn what it is like to do trend forecasting for a company instead of just in the classroom. I am extremely interested in seeing how they utilize the trend reports that they create. I will apply what I have learned from almost every class I have taken within the Apparel, Textiles and Merchandisingprogram since Merchandsiing is such an important field within the industry.Especially since I will be working with other departments, what I’ve learned from classes like Consumer Textiles, Introduction to the Fashion Industry and Apparel Manufacturing will be useful.
